Rules
King Mackerel (Scomberomorus cavalla) are the only eligible species. 30 inch minimum size (fork length). All fish must be caught on rod and reel.
The early entry fee will be $195 until 7-15-2006 and regular entry fee of $250 after.
Final Registration, Friday July 21, 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, The Southport Water Sports Parking Lot, 122 Yacht Basin Street, Old Yacht Basin, Southport, NC.  Captain’s Meetings at 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Attendance is advised, as any tournament changes will be announced there.
NO CHECK OUT! Boats participating in the King of the Cape Classic must fish in the waters of Long Bay or Onslow Bay.  No one may fish east of Cape Lookout (076.32 W) or west of Cape Romain (079.22 W).
Fishing will be Saturday, July 22. No lines in water prior to 6:00 AM. Boats with fish to weigh must be past the End-of-Line Boat by 5:00 PM. Scales will open at 3:00 PM. All times are Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) per Global Positioning System (GPS).
No mutilated fish will be accepted. (Mutilation impairs the fish’s fighting ability)
A boat may be replaced with prior approval of the Tournament Committee.
No boat may make landfall or congregate close enough to pass anything between boats, after leaving an inlet during fishing hours, without prior approval of the Tournament Committee. In the event of an emergency, take appropriate actions for the situation and then contact tournament headquarters.
All fish must be weighed in from the boat in which they were caught. No overland transportation of fish will be allowed. All fish to be weighed must be fresh, cold, and in edible condition. A crewmember must accompany each fish to the scales. All weighed fish will become property of the tournament.
The tournament will monitor VHF Channel 72 and announce a tournament phone number at the Captain’s Meetings.
Any weighed fish that contains any foreign or questionable matter will be subject to disqualification by the decision of the Tournament Committee.
Any fishermen, on any boat that is to receive a tournament prize, may be required to take and pass a polygraph examination regarding their catch. If the test is failed, the Tournament Committee may disqualify the catch.
Written protests, accompanied by a $250 cash Protest Fee, may be filed up to one hour after the last fish is weighed. The Tournament Committee will then meet and deliberate on the protest. If the protest is upheld, the Protest Fee will be returned. If the protest is not upheld, the Protest Fee will be forfeited to the tournament. All decisions of the Tournament Committee are final.
Violation of any tournament rule shall be grounds for disqualification. The Tournament Committee shall decide on any violation and their decision shall be final.
Each entered boat may win one primary prize, one prize in each level of the TWT, and more than one secondary prize.
The prize payout in each level of the TWT is based on the amount of entry in that level, minus a 10 per cent retainer, with the balance distributed on a 50/30/20 percent split to the top three entrants.
To be eligible for a Lady, Senior, or Junior Angler Prize, the angler must be registered, actively take part in fishing, accompany their fish to the scales, and sign the weigh receipt verifying that they were involved in catching the fish.
Prizes are based on the largest fish weighed in each category. In the event of a tie, the earliest fish weighed shall be declared the winner.
Any sponsors or advertisers, fishing in compliance with the tournament rules, are eligible for any prizes.
All boats must meet US Coast Guard and NC Wildlife Commission safety regulations to be eligible to fish the tournament.
The Tournament Committee has the right to refuse an entry from any applicant. If an entry is refused, 100 per cent of the applicant’s entry fee will be returned.
This is a Captain’s Choice tournament. In the event that the tournament must be rescheduled, due to any cause beyond the control of the King of the Cape Classic Tournament Committee, no entry fees will be refunded until all attempts to reschedule have been exhausted. In the unlikely event that this happens, entrants will be given the choice of a refund of 75 per cent of their entry or having the entry fee retained for entry in the following year’s tournament.
By signing the entry form, the boat representative consents that the King of the Cape Classic Tournament Committee has in no way coerced them into participating in the tournament and that they are doing so of their own free will and that they will have no claim against the King of the Cape Classic Tournament Committee, for any event that occurs during or because of the tournament. Furthermore they give consent to the use, without payment or restrictions, any photographs in which he or she appears, for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to resale, advertising, commercial, or promotional materials.
This tournament is to be fun and as equal as possible for all participants. In the broader scope of activities and actions that are not specifically covered by the rules, the governing premise is that if you would not want someone else to be engaged in an activity or action, then you should not do it yourself. In any conflict or situation, the decision of the Tournament Committee is final.
